The Butte College baseball team has earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, the organization announced on Wednesday, July 26.
The Roadrunners earned the award for the third consecutive year.
“Education is a big part of our program. From day one we put a huge emphasis on school. We tell the players the number 1 goal for them in our program is to get their degrees,” stated head coach Anthony Ferro. “For us to be recognized nationally not just this year but for the last two as well just speaks to our student-athletes’ commitment to our academic goals.”
Criteria for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award include:
Must be a high school or college team.
The head coach must be a current ABCA member.
The team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the 2022-23 academic year. GPA may not be rounded up.
The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
